Sydney has a fantastic Harbour Foreshores National Park. There are some great short walks, just for a morning or afternoon stroll or as a fantastic way to show off Sydney and it harbour to visitors.  Here are a few bits, collected from a couple of different walks.

Not only is Sydney Harbour spectacular, but the other major waterways als have great appeal. Some walks on other foreshores are here as well.

Taronga Zoo to Balmoral walk.

This walk is about 6.5 kms, so short enough to do as an out and back. Good public transport to the zoo by ferry or bus, or if you’re early, park nearby.

Start opposite the lower entrance to Taronga Zoo.

Athol Bay and Hall

To Bradley’s Head

The walk passes around Bradleys Head (you can drive to the headland as well). Bradleys head is now the site of a memorial to military vessels and their crews lost in conflicts.  Its also famous for the HMAS Sydney mast, located here.

Harbour Ferries

These will zoom past you as you promenade along. Always busy on their way to the next destination wharf.

Side Diversions

As you walk along, explore some of the little side paths. They take you to the interesting spots.

Walking Paths.

You can expect good quality, well maintained tracks for easy walking. These paths are very popular with locals, and tourists alike. Quite a few people will be running, as its a popular place for the locals to keep fit.  Of course its not all walking,  take time for a coffee at Clifton Gardens on Chowder Bay.

Big Views

Great views to the city, Manly and over Sydney Harbour to the Heads.

Little Views

With not quite the grandeur, but equal beauty there are many other sites and views on the way.

History on the way.

Take the time to read the notices and explore the historic sites on the way. Especially around Bradley’s and George’s heads (George’s is the site of old barracks and WW1 hospital).

Gun emplacement near George’s Head.

Spit Bridge to Manly walk

The spit bridge end of this walk has all the bustle of seaside life for the first little bit, before the pace relaxes into the walk proper. About 9 Kms each way.

Spit bridge

Spit Bridge – opens to let the taller boats through.

Seaside Hustle and Bustle

Castle rock

Climb up a bit and walk along from Clontarf point to Castle Rock, past a few beaches. Stop for dip if you want.

Wildlife

Keep an eye out for any wild life. Bush turkey and water dragons can be found.

Sydney Heads

More big views of Sydney Heads

Grotto Point

Another side trip will take you to the lighthouse at Grotto point. Sydney Harbour has a few of these lights, warning shipping of the rocky points.

Dobroyd Head,  and the “shacks”

Dobroyd Head has a few old shacks facing into Crater Cove. Another interesting bit of history, as is the story of Arabanoo. Divert up into the park to visit Arabanoo lookout, with views to Manly and of the Harbour.

Reef Beach to Manly

If its hot, have a swim at Reef beach before you head around past 40 Baskets Beach to Manly.
